Requirements of Teaching Courses at University of Johannesburg (UJ)

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Education (BEd) courses at UJ, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A valid National Senior Certificate (NSC) that allows for degree admission.
  • A minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 26, not including Life Orientation.
  • Preliminary admission is determined by the results of the final Grade 11 examination, while final admission relies on the final Grade 12 results.


For those with a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4, the following minimum requirements must be met to gain admission to a Bachelor’s degree programme:

  • Three fundamental subjects with scores between 60-69%, including English
  • Three vocational subjects from the designated list with scores ranging from 70-79%.
