Online applications to study nursing are now open at North West College of Nursing for the 2025 academic year. About Offered Courses

Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing (R169): The Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing is a one-year program that serves as an introduction to the nursing profession. It is designed for students who do not meet the qualifications for a diploma or bachelor’s degree in nursing. After completing the Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing at North West College of Nursing, students can pursue further studies by enrolling in a diploma in nursing, and later, an advanced diploma in nursing (Midwifery).


Diploma in Nursing (R171): The Diploma in Nursing is a 3-year program that qualifies graduates for registration with the South African Nursing Council as General Nurses. The curriculum includes both theoretical and clinical components, which must be completed each academic year. Once registered, General Nurses are equipped to work in a range of healthcare environments, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and schools.


Advanced Diploma in Midwifery: The Advanced Diploma in Midwifery is a specialised postgraduate qualification designed for nurses who want to advance their careers by focusing on the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This one year qualification equips nurses with advanced skills and knowledge in midwifery, enabling them to provide comprehensive maternal and neonatal care. 


North West College of Nursing Requirements

Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing Requirements:

To apply for higher certificate in auxiliary nursing at North West College of Nursing you need to meet the following eligible requirements:

  • Grade 12 with higher certificate pass
  • Pass Mathematics
  • Pass Life Science


Diploma in Nursing Requirements:

To apply for Diploma in Nursing at North West College of Nursing you need to meet the following eligible requirements:

Senior Certificate Matriculants

  • APS: 18
  • English and Biology/Physiology: Symbol C Standard Grade OR
  • English and Biology/Physiology: Symbol D Higher Grade


National Senior Certificate Matriculants (NSC): 

  • APS: 23
  • English: Level 4
  • Life Science: Level 4
  • Any other two (2) NSC subjects: Level 4 (except Life Orientation)


Advanced Diploma in Midwifery Requirements:

To apply for the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery at North West College of Nursing you need to meet the following eligible requirements:

  • Proof of current registration as a General Nurse at NQF level 6.
  • Diploma (Bridging) in Nursing (General or Psychiatric Nursing).
  • Be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)

  • Your Certified ID copy
  • Your certified copy of Senior Certificate OR National Senior Certificate
  • Your certified grade 11 report (if currently in Matric)
  • Your grade 12 most recent results (if you are currently in grade 12)
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • If you are upgrading your marks submit proof from the North West Education Department
  • If you are a qualified nurse submit certificate of registration (SANC), SANC Annual Practising certificate
  • If you are a qualified nurse submit qualification certificate
